Explore, Dream, Discover

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails.  Explore, Dream, Discover." –Mark Twain

I'm back! The last time I blogged was 2013 and so much has happened since then! It would take me an eternity to catch everyone up so I'll just summarize:
I started college at MSU
College has me worrying about my future
I couldn't sleep last night
I've been looking into majors that involve writing
A thought occurred to me..
Why did I stop blogging?!

So, I decided to give this blog a makeover, a new name, a new url, new layout, everything. I miss when I was 14 years old and so determined to get that one post in every day. What happened?

I'm bringing this blog back with an inspirational quote above. I thought this was correlated to my current situation. College is supposed to be about getting involved and breaking out of your comfort zone, exploring, and discovering new things. I'm still trying to do just that. Freshman year is basically over (May 6th!) and I have the whole summer to prepare myself for the rest of my college experience! I wanted to share my adventures with others (this scares me more now than when I was 14 and started this blog). I can't wait to travel (especially up north: picture above), spend time with friends and family, read new books (!!!!!!!!!), attend exciting events, and just simply relax after such a crazy first year.

This blog used to be called Fashion Mist and was mainly a fashion blog alone. Now, it's going to be my personal and fashion blog. What to expect now: Fashion, books, movies, quotes, shows, inspiration, food, ramblings, etc.

What I truly want to say is that I don't know how I stopped writing. I went through some rough years and now I finally had time to sit down and reflect (I should be studying for exams, what am I doing right now). Anyways, writing used to make me so happy. But then it started to become a sort of chore and I think I just ran away from it out of fear. It always used to be fun and I began putting pressure on myself and that fun slowly diminished. That's why I'm ready to start over and rediscover my passion. I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences, likes, dislikes, thoughts, gaining new readers, and reconnecting with old ones.

Question: Where do you see yourself in twenty years?

Quote of the Week

I feel as if it has been a decade since I last posted on this blog. I was up north this past week when I realized that what truly made me happy, was this blog. So, why did I abandon it for so long? I have no idea.

I thought this simple quote of the week would be a decent jump start into regularly blogging again. I love this saying by Alexander McQueen! Hopefully this gives you a bit of inspiration for the week ahead.

"I think there is beauty in everything. What 'normal' people would perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it." -Alexander McQueen

Knitwear

This fall and winter, I'm all about staying comfortable, cute, and cozy. What better way to do that than by wearing some jumpers? I actually may have gone overboard online shopping at Topshop.com. Look at that pile! But honestly, I just couldn't resist. I'm obsessed.

What's your favorite piece this season?

Topshop

Wow, I haven't been on this blog in a while. I've been so busy with school starting. Right now, it is Friday and 11:25 pm and I've decided that I've abandoned Fashion Mist for way too long. Just because I'm busy with things I don't like doesn't mean I should leave the things I love.

So, I'm back!

I wanted to share with you some really happy news. I was in Chicago with my mom over the summer and I discovered that there was a Topshop, you know that UK store. In America!! Who knew?? Probably everyone, but I'm just late. Well, that is where I spent most of my time, of course.

But, there's more. I recently found out that they have a Topshop now EVERYWHERE in the US at Nordstrom's. So, where will I be tomorrow? I think you can guess.
As you can tell, I'm quite obsessed with Topshop. I'm maybe a little overexcited, haha. If you are from the UK, you probably think I'm insane.

Anyways, I wanted to share with you just a few of my favorite buys. I'll hopefully have more to show you soon!

Quote of the Day

I recently read The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky and let me tell you, you better keep a highlighter or something ready if you ever read it. I can't count the amount of quotes I have found in this story. I even took a picture of one of my favorite ones below to share with you. It is such a wonderful story about life and growing up. The main character Charlie is very lovable. I highly recommend if you haven't read it.

"I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them."

Chandler the Robot

Hello! I've been dying to share with you all something that I'm quite obsessed with. I don't know if any of you are familiar with Meg Frampton. She and her sister Dia are a singing duo. I adore both these girls. Both are so talented, inspiring, and sweet. I even got to see them in concert! I couldn't help but notice how lovely Meg's jewelry website is.

Meg creates jewelry on her website called http://chandler-the-robot.goodsie.com/. There you find necklaces, earrings, and so on. Take a look yourself.

There's more on her website! Make sure you check it out here!

High Heels Only

It's finally summer! Can't believe I'm a junior now. I've had such a rough year at school that I completely abandoned this blog. I want to apologize. I'm a bit worried that I've lost some readers, but hopefully this summer I can gain them back!

Recently, I went shopping with my older sisters and we decided to be kids again and play "dress up" in the shoe store. You're never too old! I don't usually wear high heels, so I decided to try on some funky ones. The neons had to be one of my favorites!

Sadly, we didn't end up purchasing any. But, you're never too old to try on shoes just for the kick of it! It was actually quite fun (:

My Week in Photos PS: Love and miss you Papa

Hey everyone! I know I have been slacking on this blog. But, I do have an excuse right now. This last week was completely and utterly hectic. With the death of my grandpa a couple weeks ago, my life has not been the best. Then, straight after, we found out that my grandma on the other side of the family got diagnosed with lung cancer. I seriously did not know where to turn. All this bad news made me feel grumpy, sad, careless, and I started to not even care about school.

On a brighter note, it is now spring break! I've pulled myself out of my rut and am now typing this post. I thought I should share a few brighter photos of the week!

 Made a stop at Starbucks

My second cousin Jonah and I (:

Basically passed out on the floor during this crazy week. My dog decided to join.

(Don't judge me, I'm quite obsessed with Titanic. Can't wait for it to come out in theaters !)

Lastly, here's a small paper I wrote on my grandpa
♥

I’ve never had someone believe in me as much as my Papa Art did. He didn’t know what I was up to day by day, how I acted, or who I spoke to. He couldn’t see me at school or at home. But somehow, he knew that I would succeed and that everything would be alright. He trusted me as an individual and helped me through so many hardships. Even though he passed on, his words and wisdom still stay with me.  I still think of him whenever I am lost. Even when he’s not here, he is still an ally to me.
My papa grew up as an only child and was a hopeless romantic. He met my grandmother at a dance, where he went straight up to her and said, “I’m going to marry you and we’re going to have six kids”. My grandma thought it was “quite the line”. Little did she know that my papa was right. They ended up getting married and actually having six children.  Throughout the years, he became a wonderful husband and father. He fought in the war and even liberated a concentration camp. Doing all this, he was inspired to continue to work hard. If anyone could describe him in one word it would be enthusiastic. He was always working hard and putting others before him, treating everyone equally. He encouraged others to be enthusiastic about their tasks. Whenever you asked him how he was, he would simply say, “better and better”.
Every time I went over to my grandparents’ house, my papa would be sitting there with the largest grin on his face. He had the biggest smile and it could just put a smile on everyone else’s faces. He would look at me and my sisters and simply tell us that we were getting prettier and prettier each day. I never left that house feeling sad. I always left feeling happy about myself because he would always just smile at me, compliment me, and purely make me feel like I was the most important person in the world. My papa also encouraged everyone to go to college. He wanted to be responsible for all his grandchildren’s degrees. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be so determined to get into a great school. He would always ask me, “Michigan or Michigan State?” He was a huge Michigan fan and since both my sisters attend State, I knew he was hoping I would say Michigan. I would tell him I haven’t decided. He would just say, “You can go to any school you want”.
Every year, our entire family would get together in July for a huge birthday celebration. Most of our family members’ birthdays are in July including my sister’s, mother’s, and my Papa Art’s. Years would pass and each celebration, my papa would make a grand speech to the whole family. His speeches were so inspiring and you would just get lost in them. He spoke of his life and his children, grandchildren, and so on. He would get so emotional, that sometimes my aunt would have to take over while he cried. You could definitely tell that he was genuine. As the years went on, my papa kept getting older and older. The speeches became shorter and shorter. We could tell that he was getting weaker.
March of 2012, we found out that my papa was so weak, that he wasn’t going to make it much longer. My family went to visit and my papa wasn’t sitting in the living room with a huge grin on his face like usual. We went upstairs to his room, and there he was, sleeping in his bed, hooked up on a breathing machine, looking small and fragile. It was frightening to see. When he woke up, you could tell that it would take all his strength to even look up. But, when he found out that my sisters and I were there, he had the nurse help him and soon enough he was sitting up on the bed. The huge grin that was so familiar appeared on his face. He just smiled at us and we held his hand. He then said, “Prettier and prettier every day,” to us. His voice was barely a whisper. My mom then asked him how he was and in that same frail voice he forced out the words “better and better”.
About five days later, we got the call that my papa had passed away. He was ninety-five years old. I was extremely sad at first and I still am. But, I realized that my papa wouldn’t want me to be sad. He would want me to continue on with my life, be happy, and shine. If it wasn’t for him, I would probably give up. He was such an inspiration to me and it seemed as if he was the only one who believed in me. He had a wonderful life and touched the lives of so many people. Even though he is gone, he is still an ally to me. I will always remember him. Now, whenever someone asks me how I am, whether I am sad, mad, or okay, I always say “better and better”.

Happy Birthday Dad! ♥

Last night, my two older sisters and I decided to go the extra mile for our amazing dad. We decided to make him this guitar cake. So, once he went to sleep, we slaved for about three to four hours. We had so much fun and I'm so happy with the outcome. Here's some photos (:

My sister looks so happy here. I just want the frosting hahaha

PS: I wanted to share this lovely photo. The second boy in plaid is my dad. I adore this picture so much. Loving their outfits(:

Fashion Class, Please ♥

Hello, everyone! Seems like an eternity since I last updated on this blog! I've missed it so much. I've been so busy with school.

Speaking of school, mine sucks, to be honest. I'm in my sophomore year of high school, but being my stressful, little self, I'm already anxious about junior year. The reason being, I have no clue what electives to take next year. I hate the electives I'm taking now, (spanish 3 and gym.) It seems as though my school offers NOTHING that I'm interested in.

Which brings me to the point of this blog post. I really want a fashion class at my school. Not just a fashion design class, but like a class where we learn about designers, quotes, fashion history, and maybe even blog a little online. Now, I'm really serious on this matter right now. I want to take this idea to the school board, but I'm afraid they'll laugh in my face and not appreciate it. It doesn't really seem like it would be a reasonable class, but a little piece of hope in me thinks it will.

But really, I want a fashion class. It doesn't seem fair to me that my school offers like five different types of gym classes, but not one fashion class. It just doesn't make sense.

I know this post was kind of random, but I just thought it necessary to share my many thoughts. And this was the perfect place to do so(:

Your Thoughts?(:

Fashion Collage ♥

What do I do when I'm stressing out or just want to have a lazy day? I add to my fashion collage. I have two boards set up in my room and I just finished this board last week. I turn on colorful lights in my room, get my scissors, magazines, pins, turn on some music, and just go with it. I add photos, quotes, and styles that catch my eye. It's actually really relaxing and if you love fashion, I recommend you do it. It adds a cute touch to your room, too.(:

Click the collage above to get a closer look(:

While I was working on the collage, I listened to Colbie Caillat's new album "All Of You". It's amazing! Perfect if you are stressing out and need a pick-me-up. The songs are all adorable and fun!(:
